Wooden Spoon Rod Puppet

Materials:
Head: Wooden spoon
A piece of fabric about 12" by 24" for the costume
White glue or hot glue
Hands-2 wooden beads or heavy cardboard
Waist- ribbon-opt.
Hair- yarn, cotton, raffia etc.
Features- felt/ fabric, wiggle eyes, buttons, nails and
pieces of metal such as a bottle cap or paint
Arm rods- 2 chop sticks or 12" skewers (bamboo)
Scissors, decorative materials such as lace, ribbon,
scarf etc. for costume.
Procedure:
Make a face on the bowl of the spoon. Use whatever materials you have on hand. Pieces of fabric, buttons, wiggle eyes, paint, etc. Decide on your character and make the face fit the character. Think about how a person’s eyes and mouth look if he/she is happy, sad, angry, excited, surprised…. And make the puppet have an expression that fits the character.
Add hair
Add costume decorations, a hat, scarf, ribbon, eye glasses etc.
Add the costume by attaching the fabric piece. Make a small slit in the fabric in the center and slip the end of the spoon into the slit and push the fabric up to the neck and glue.
Add Arms if desired. Use another piece of fabric folded in a long tube about 12-16" long. Glue to the back of the head and add skewers at each end for the rod to move the arms. Add a fabric or cardboard hand on the end of each stick.

Or: I’m in a hurry, don’t make me late, hurry up!
Or: I’m so happy, I just found one dollar, let’s go get some ice cream.
Or: It’s not easy being a girl, I wish I were……
